ON SELF-RELIANCE PART 2

ON SELF-RELIANCE PART 2

"The eye was placed where one ray should fall, that it might testify of that particular ray. "
     - We decide what we give out attention to/small to be or not to be moments

"In the attempt his genius deserts him; no muse befriends; no invention, no hope."
     - If we don't act on the genius that makes us who we are, like a muscle, it weakens as much as we leave it unexercised.

Regards the reader as a hero, no matter who you are, you're a hero to someone.

"So God has armed youth and puberty and manhood no less with its own piquancy and charm, and made it enviable and gracious and its claims not to be put by, if it will stand by itself."
    +
"A boy is in the parlour what the pit is in the playhouse; independent, irresponsible, looking out from his corner on such people and facts as pass by, he tries and sentences them on their merits, in the swift, summary way of boys, as good, bad, interesting, silly, eloquent, troublesome."
     - Youth is grey, with youth there is naïvety and stupidity forgiven by being uniformed and not living through certain things.

"He would utter opinions on all passing affairs, which being seen to be not private, but necessary, would sink like darts into the ear of men, and put them in fear.
These are the voices which we hear in solitude, but they grow faint and inaudible as we enter into the world."
    - We pass through life with thousands of unvoiced opinions and thoughts that we fear could harm us if anyone heard, or in fear we'd be judged if someone knew so we push them to the back of our head as the day goes by only to get lost in the void called your short term memory.

"Society everywhere is in conspiracy against the manhood of every one of its members.
     - Society says be your best self but rejects when you're your best self.

First impression of "On Self-Reliance"

First impression of "On Self-Reliance"

My first impression of "On Self-Reliance" by Ralph Waldo Emerson is that this man wrote a whole essay telling people to be themself because they'll regret when someone is positively perceived as someone they could've been. In this essay, Emerson tells us we should learn to understand and accept ourselves because otherwise we cower in fear of rejection. From the looks of it, rejection might be the only way you learn to accept yourself because with close inspection you might notice how much of a gem you are. Only you will live with you forever, so once you learn to be yourself and accept yourself, the easier it'll be for you.

How I Read

How I Read

So today in class, Dr. Preston read to us his post titled How We Read and I think this proved to me why I dislike reading so much. The post discussed the reasons why most of us find reading unenjoyable, from analysis to maybe it’s just not the book for you. I know that somewhere in myself I  L O V E reading, but it always comes down to me having to take notes or stop every chapter and analyze “what does the author mean by…” and “how is this a metaphor for..” etc. I’ve never taken the time to actually sit down and let myself be transported into the book and get to know the character for who they are instead of what they symbolize. I know the biggest challenge I have while reading is that if I read to myself, I won’t absorb the material, or my astigmatism makes it really challenging to look at a book page for too long. Although I’m writing in a negative connotation, this gave me hope for reading because the more I think about it, the more I realize that my problems have resources that could be fixed and it gave me hope to try reading again, but instead of trying to analyze every sentence, I should try and read for pleasure.

Conscience Of A Hacker

Conscience Of A Hacker Response

Do you ever wonder what makes a hacker, a hacker? How they're molded or how high or low of an intelligence they have. Maybe the reason they like to hack is because it was finally something they could control. Seeking and exploring shouldn't be criminalized, curiosity fuels the hackers mind instead of malintent. I feel like although most hackers hack to get private information, you do have those curious few that hack to better their internet experience or customize the layout of their devices. Hacking, although dangerous can be fulfilling to your curiosity and show you a new layer of the internet you may want to explore.

Response to The Socratic Method

The Socratic Method

The socratic method is definitely a useful way to see both sides of an argument. I've used this method in a previous class where my teacher sat us in a circle and we essentially asked questions and argued. It was useful because i found better understanding of the book we were reading (discussions topic) and it helped open up the class more. Although i didn't read the fun article, the article talks about how using the socratic method is a way to understand the working of the human mind and gives an example discussion between a teacher and their student talking about "are you're a loser if you don't reach a high wealth and social status?" This conversation is interesting to read because as a reader, i see the student as "immature and juvenile" but this is genuinely how someone may think which means the socratic method does its intended job.

Welcome to the Monstrosity of my Mind

Hello and Welcome

(insert picture of me here)

If you're here, it's probably due to the fact you're curious and want to know my opinion or you're randomly just surfing the web and found this page, but if that's the case, why are you searching my name up >:(? Nonetheless, this website will be my workspace for my english class. It will be where i post my responses and opinions to certain articles or bodies of work. This is my first time blogging and the fact that it's for a class makes this more interesting. Expect mistakes and changes of heart/mind, but i'm looking forward to this experience and interested to see my personal growth.
